Aligning Outcomes, Assessments and Activities

Everyone should have goals.  As a teacher, I find it extremely important to develop goals to allow students the maximize opportunity to learn.  I recently heard about a type of goal called a Big Hairy Audacious Goal, BHAG for short;  This type of goal was developed by L. Jim Collins.  The purpose of a BHAG is to developing a broad goal. beginning with outcomes and developing assessments and activities based on the outcomes.  I used worksheets developed by Fink to help align the outcomes, assessments, and activities for my students.

BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goal) – Overarching Course Goal

My Big Harry Audacious Goal (BHAG) for the course is: Learners will explore land formations to help understand and appreciate the way the world functions.

To see how I was able to align my learning outcomes with assessments and activities, please check out the following worksheets developed by Fink (2003).  The worksheets allowed my to look at many aspects of learning to develop learning goals.
